We are looking for participants who:
1. Have a prior diagnosis of Parkinson's disease
2. Are a fluent English speaker
3. Have no prior diagnosed learning disability.
Your participation will involve:
1. Completing approximately 30 minutes of surveys online which will measure various aspects of your health, mood and personality.
2. Attending one or two 2.5-3-hour research sessions, where you will complete a series of game-like cognitive tasks, as well as some simple motor assessments and a saliva sample for genetic research. These sessions will be held either at the University of Adelaide (North Terrace campus) or at your home. You will be able to nominate which location you would prefer when booking your research sessions.
If you are currently taking medication for Parkinson's disease, we will ask you to take your medication as normal for one of these appointments and to withhold medication for 12-24 hours for the other appointment. You will need to obtain medical consent from your doctor or neurologist before withholding medication. Please note however, that if you cannot obtain medical consent to withdraw your medication or prefer not to withdraw your medication for one of the testing sessions, you can nevertheless participate in our study. In this case, we will only book the testing session that requires you to take your medication as usual.
If you do not take any medication for Parkinson’s disease, you can participate in our study by completing only one research session.
To thank you for your participation in the study, you will receive a $20 Coles/Myer gift card at the end of each testing session.
